Today, we’re talking style inspiration again. Remember last week when we were cleaning out our closets (see the post here)? There were a few pieces that I kept out as I wasn’t sure how to style them. What do you do when you don’t know how to style something? You turn to Pinterest of course!
I was at a loss about how to style this shirt. Pinterest to the rescue!
I switched the white top in the inspo pic for the pink shirt and topped off the look with a gray animal print scarf. I also opted for black boots instead of the brown ones. I’m loving this look! The pink shirt can stay!
Do you like the light pink and gray color combo?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a fabulous day, lovelies!
Today, we’re talking style inspiration. Remember last week when we were cleaning out our closets (see the post here)? There were a few pieces that I kept out as I wasn’t sure how to style them. What do you do when you don’t know how to style something? You turn to Pinterest of course!
I was completely at a loss about how to style this white vest. So I opened Pinterest and searched for ‘white vest outfit ideas for winter’.
I found a few ideas that caught my eye. Trying all 3 is definitely in the plans, but I decided to start with the red shirt and animal print scarf.
I stayed pretty close to the inspiration pic. I opted for a buffalo plaid scarf as it matched the red in my shirt nicely while tying in the white from the vest. I’m not mad at this outfit. Thanks to some Pinterest inspiration, the white vest can go back into my closet for good now.
Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous! We’re coming at you with a Monday edition of the blog, because we have a very important topic to discuss…Black Friday.
Oh, Black Friday, you’re the sale of the year and your special day is right around the corner! It’s the perfect time to refresh our wardrobes. It’s easy to become enthralled by all the fabulous deals, though. If we’re not careful, things can get out of hand quickly. Before we know it, we have a porch full of boxes and a closet that’s anything but rejuvenated. To avoid this undesirable outcome, let’s take some time to prepare. Don’t worry, it’s a painless process based on the one-in one-out rule (for a refresh on this rule, see the post here). Without further ado, let’s get into it!
First of all, let’s acknowledge that letting go of things is hard. To make the process easier, it’s important to “dignify the ending” (credit to Tero International, Inc.). What do we mean by this? It may be by thanking the item for its service as Marie Kondo suggests in her videos. It may be reminiscing about a particular memory or sharing a vision for the future of that item once it’s found a new home. It’s whatever you need to do to get closure and move on. I realize this may seem silly, but I promise it’s helpful.
Now that we know how to say goodbye to our beloved pieces, let’s get to cleaning out our closet.
Step 1: What brings you joy?
Look through all your clothes and set aside anything that doesn’t bring you joy. This may be because it’s not your style anymore or because it doesn’t fit or because it’s damaged, etc. I’m talking serious joy here. You want to look into your closet and LOVE everything in it.
Step 2: Sort, sort, sort
Next up, let’s sort those items that don’t bring us joy. I sort my pieces into 3 bins:
Purgatory: Things that I’m not quite ready to donate yet. These are items I want to see if I miss once they’re out of my closet.
Donation: Things that will be donated.
Trash: Items that are beyond repair and need to be tossed.
Step 3: Analysis
Analysis, you ask? Yes, analysis. Don’t worry, we don’t have to make any graphs (unless you want to!) All we mean by analysis here is that we want to understand why certain items didn’t work well for us. That way we can avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Step 4: Make a list
Now take stock of everything that has gone into one of the bins. Make a list of those items that you need to replace. Voila! You now have your Black Friday shopping list!
The Steps in Action
To prepare for Black Friday, I too, cleaned out my closet. I’d love to share my experience with you now.
First of all, I cleaned out my Purgatory closet. I dignified the ending of each item as I placed it into the donation bin. That really helped me let of go of those pieces.
Next, I went into my closet and pulled out items that don’t bring me joy. Some went to the Purgatory closet and others went straight into the donation bin.
Next up, I did some analysis.
I bought this blouse to wear under cardigans for work. It’s a nice material, but it just doesn’t work for me. Why? It seems to be the detail around the neckline. Apparently, I don’t need more volume in that area. Lesson learned. I need to look for blouses that don’t have any additional volume around the neckline and bust area.
Something else I noticed, was the number of Target brand tank tops that had holes in them. Don’t get me wrong, I love Target as much as the next gal. Sometimes, though, the quality isn’t the best. I wear tank tops nearly every day. It makes sense for me to invest in better quality tank tops since I wear them so often. Even though the item may initially be more expensive, the cost per wear will be low. Black Friday is the perfect time to find those quality pieces at an affordable price.
Something new I tried out this round was to pull out pieces I wasn’t sure how to style. I figured I would look for outfit inspiration before these items go into Purgatory or the Donation bin.
Finally, I made my list. Here it is:
Work tank top
Sweater x2 (I donated about 5 but I don’t need to replace all of them)
Tank tops: Red, teal, purple, navy, dark grey, tan, brown and black
That’s it! My experience cleaning out my closet was satisfying and painless. I know yours will be too!
Are you ready to clean out your closet? In about one hour, you can thin out your closet, focus your Black Friday shopping, and make room for fresh, new, undamaged pieces that you LOVE!
Let’s hear from you! Will you be cleaning out your closet in preparation for Black Friday?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a fabulous day, lovelies!
Halloween is such a fun holiday in my book. The decorations, the food, the CANDY, and the costumes. Not all costumes are work appropriate, though, and not all offices share our love of this festive holiday. If your office fits into this category, have no fear! We have some subtle, work appropriate Halloween outfits you can rock at the office this year!
First up is the most subtle look of the bunch. If you don’t want to appear too over-the-top, simply wear orange and black. You can be festive yet still look professional.
Add some Halloween earrings, if you’re feeling extra daring.
If you’re looking for a work appropriate costume, may I suggest the Audrey Hepburn? Throw on a black dress, layer on the pearls, and don’t forget the classic Audrey Hepburn hair. Easy, classy, and office approved.
Need more ideas. Here’s a few fun ones straight from Pinterest:
It’s Halloween week! The air is crisp, the leaves are falling, and spooky decorations are everywhere. Soon the kiddos will be out filling the streets with their cute costumes begging for candy. In honor of this super fun and festive week, let’s revisit some previous Talk Fabulous posts along with some new Pinterest ideas.
Fall is in full swing here in the Midwest. Hues of red, orange, and yellow are all around us. I love these fall colors as much as the next gal, but sometimes I like to switch it up.
We interrupt this regularly scheduled autumn color scheme to bring you this pop of pink! We all know how I love a good pop of pink! I mirrored the inspiration photo as closely as possible with the exception of the necklace. I love the multi-colored statement necklace in the inspiration pic. The only bold necklace I had that would work for this look, though, was this pink one. I’m not mad at it. In fact, I’m loving this look!
How do you keep things fresh during the seasons? Do you ever add an “off” season color to your outfit?
That’s all for today. Have a fabulous day, lovelies!
Hey, lovelies! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous! We’re so happy you’re here!
Today, let’s talk about the color red. Oh, how I love red! I didn’t always have a love affair with this color, though. My past self thought red was too bold and bright for me. It was my grandma who bought me a red shirt and said every blonde-haired girl needs some red in their wardrobe. She was right and I’ve never looked back.
I love the gray and maroon combo in the inspiration pic. To switch it up a bit, I chose a classic red shirt to pair with the gray scarf. I think either way looks fabulous! I finished off my look with skinny jeans and some black ballet flats. Which is your favorite?
That’s all for today! Have a fabulous day, lovelies!
You know those women who always look flawless? Have you ever wondered how they do it? Ever wonder if you could do it too? Those questions have certainly floated through my mind.
How do they look so cool, calm, and confident ALL.THE.TIME? I’ve scoured the internet to see if there was a secret behind their look. Turns out there is and it’s easier than you think.
Want to look put together every time you leave the house, so you too can appear cool, calm, and confident? If so, keep reading to find out all the juicy secrets!
Take care of your face
The first thing people notice about you is your face. That makes total sense as we’re making eye contact with people we meet. There’s a few easy ways we can take care of our face.
Have a skincare routine
Keeping our faces clean gives us a great foundation for everything else. See my skincare routine here.
Protecting our face is important to make sure we keep that youthful looking glow.
Mascara and blush are your BFFs
Nothing opens up your eyes quicker and easier than mascara. If you need to look instantly more awake, this is the ticket. To add instant color and life to your face sweep on some blush.
Don’t forget your lips
Colored lip balms add moisture and color to your lips giving you a more lively look.
Fill in your brows
I’ve written several posts about the importance of filling in your brows (here and here). Your brows are the frame of your face, make sure it stands out!
Take care of your hair
Our hair is the frame of our face. It makes sense that this is the next area that we need to pay close attention.
Clean hair is queen
This probably goes without saying, but we don’t want to walk around with grease balls on our heads! If you’re prone to grease (like me), dry shampoo is your best friend (see my favorites here). With a few spritzes, your hair will be back to its normal, clean self in no time!
Make sure you’re hair is dry
Just like we don’t want to walk around like grease balls, we also don’t want to walk in with wet hair. Nothing says lazy or I don’t care, like wet hair.
This doesn’t have to be anything fancy. It may just be brushing it and spraying on some hairspray. The point here is that we appear to have spent hours on a style that may have only taken a few minutes.
Take care of your hands
Research shows that the second thing people notice about women is their hands (credit Tero International, Inc.). This seemed odd to me at first. The more I thought about it, though, it makes sense. We are always pointing at things, using our phones, typing, and the like. Our hands are always on display. It makes sense that taking care of them will help us always look put together.
Make sure you use lotion and cuticle cream on a regular basis. This will help the hands stay soft and resist cracking due to dry weather.
Consider a mani
As hard as we may try taking care of our nails ourselves, there’s just no substitute for a manicure. You can’t believe the compliments I get after going to the salon. It’s crazy. The good thing is that manicures are relatively inexpensive. They clock in around $20. That’s not bad for having flawless nails in my book!
No chipped nail polish
Please, please, please immediately remove nail polish that’s chipped. Nothing looks messier and less put together than chipped nail polish. There’s some great options out there for long-wearing nail polish. Check out my previous posts on the subject here and here.
File and shape
Along with no chipped nail polish, make sure your nails are filed and nicely shaped. Again, having this done at the salon is a breeze, but you can do it at home too.
Nothing says lazy (and actually kinda gross) than dirty nails and hands. Keep a nail brush by your sink and you’ll never have to worry about this again!
Take care of your clothes
The clothes we wear send a message to those we meet. Wearing the right clothes for the occasion at hand is always important. Beyond that, though, there are a few things we can do to make sure we always look put together.
Fit is key
Ill fitting clothes never conveys that we are put together. It’s vital that we make sure our clothes fit our bodies well. Never mind what that tag says, no one will see it. People will see a piece that doesn’t fit well a mile away, though!
Wear dark jeans
To me, nothing looks more chic than a dark pair of jeans. This is especially important for professional situations.
Add a completer piece
I’ve talked about completer pieces before (here). It bears repeating here, though. Completer pieces can elevate your look from okay to fabulous instantly. Completer pieces include items such as a scarf, a necklace, earrings, a blazer or cardigan, etc. If you take nothing else from this post, take this to heart.
Style your look
It’s easy to add a touch of style to any look and all for free! Cuff your jeans, roll your sleeves, etc. These little touches can add a ton to any outfit!
Scuff free shoes
Always make sure your shoes are scuff-free and polished. This may seem old school, but trust me, this makes a huge difference. Next time you’re at the shoe store, pick up a polish kit. You won’t regret it (and I promise it won’t take too much time to have your shoes looking fabulous)!
Have an emergency to-go kit
This all sounds great, right? What about when we leave the house, though? What if we have a fashion emergency when we’re out and about? No worries! Enter the to-go kit! I have a to-go kit in my purse and one in my work briefcase. You can customize it to whatever meets your needs. Listed below are the items I consider essential in any to-go kit:
Brush and hair spray (maybe a hair tie and bobbie pins too!)
Those are all the secrets to always looking put together. Take care of your face, do your hair, pay attention to your hands and nails, consider your clothes, and have a to-go kit. That’s not so bad right? Everything is pretty quick and inexpensive. Nothing here is going to break the bank or have you taking 2 hours to get ready. Now we can all be one of those women who always looks put together!
Can you believe it’s almost officially fall? I know I can’t. Time has been flying by! September in the Midwest can be a bit of a rollercoaster. One day the crisp, cool fall breeze has us reaching for a jacket and the next we’ll want to jump in the pool to stay cool. It’s crazy!
Today, I’ve put together 10 outfit ideas featuring one of our favorite apparel items…leggings. Leggings are basically a girl’s BFF. They’re comfy, chic, and can be worn for nearly any occasion. What’s not to love about that, right? These outfit ideas aim to transition us nicely from warm, summer-like fall to the crisp, cool days of fall. Enjoy!
There we have it! 10 ways to wear leggings this fall!
What’s your favorite way to wear leggings?
Thanks for stopping by! Have a fabulous day, lovelies!
Big thanks to Candace over at Just Posted for the idea for this post. Check out her post here!
I don’t know about you, but I can’t believe it’s September already! Where on earth did the summer go? As disappointing as it is to see summer passing by in the rear-view mirror, we can only move forward. So, fall here we come!
Today, I’ve put together 10 fall outfit ideas just for you! There’s a few things all these outfits have in common. First of all, there’s no boots making an appearance yet. I’m not ready for boot weather. Instead, you’ll find sandals, ballet flats, and pumps. Secondly, these outfits either have long pants or skirts or a long-sleeved shirt or jacket. The cooler temps call for covering up a bit more, but don’t be afraid to still show some skin. Lastly, all these looks contain fall colors. I never thought much about colors of the seasons living in the Midwest. We essentially have a specific wardrobe for spring, summer, fall, and winter. One of my sister-in-laws lives in Arizona and she mentioned something one day that made me realize colors for seasons is important. She said she needed to pull out her fall colored summer wear. Light bulb moment! Living in Arizona where the temperature is still sweltering in the early fall, you still need your shorts and tanks. Having those items in fall colors can help transition into the fall months even when the temperature isn’t quite ready yet.
Without further ado, let’s get into the outfit ideas!
