The Easy Way to Mix Prints

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk mixing it up.  It’s good to mix it up every now and then.  Ya know, to keep things fresh and fun.  Why not try mixing patterns in our outfits?  Well, for one thing, it’s intimidating and oh so scary, at least for me.  If you feel the same, don’t despair!  I have a sure-fire way to ensure you get the mix right every time.  Are you ready?  Okay, here goes.  Be a copycat.  That’s right, simply find inspiration and mimic it.  Easy, right?  Let’s see it in action.  I was drawn to today’s inspiration photo right away.  I just loved the uniqueness and interest of the look while maintaining simplicity.  The browns in the scarf tie in so nicely with the boots while the black in the scarf tie in with the shirt.  Fabulous!  I thought I’d try my hand at mixing stripes and animal print.  At first, I paired a brown and black animal print scarf with a black and white striped shirt.  However, I just didn’t like the way it looked on me.  Instead, I kept the same color palette by adding a black, gray, and white animal print scarf.  That I liked.  What do you think?  Need more ideas on easy ways to mix prints?  Check out my previous post on mixing prints here.

It’s Been Forever

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s try out another Try It, Wear It, Love It challenge from Looking Fly on a Dime (check out my previous posts on this here and here).  We’re kicking it back to Day 20 “I Haven’t Worn This In Forever“.  That certainly describes this sweater I pulled out of my closet this morning.  It’s been at least 2 years since I wore this sweater.  It’s one of my favorites, but I’ve been too scared to try it on for fear it wouldn’t fit.  This challenge inspired me to go ahead and give it a try.  Much to my surprise, it still fits!  Yay!  Now that’s a great way to start the morning!

Maroon It My Way

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk restyling.  We do a lot of restyling here, it’s kind of our thing.  Even when copying a look, we can still put our own spin on it to make it something unique to our style.  Take today’s inspiration outfit for example.  When recreating the look, I stuck pretty close to the original.  I kept the same black top with an animal print scarf, maroon pants, and boots.  However, I chose maroon leggings and tall boots.  I also added a long cardigan to amp up the look.   With very little effort, I took the inspiration outfit and made it my own.  Don’t be afraid to copy a look you admire.  It’s super easy to add a few small touches to make it your own!

Winter Protest

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk protests.  Don’t worry, we’re NOT getting political here.  We’re talking protesting winter.  Don’t get me wrong.  I love living in a place that has four seasons complete with snow and cold weather.  That doesn’t mean that I can’t stage a silent protest every now and then.  My favorite way to combat winter is by wearing bright colors.  Today’s outfit features a bright yellow tee that’s fit for a summer’s day paired with a pink tank, sweater, and necklace.  To add just a touch of winter, I threw on my skinny jeans and brown boots.  I gotta say that I’m pretty happy walking out the door in these bright colors.  Winter doesn’t stand a chance!

Another Day Another Animal Print

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk favorites.  Today’s outfit encompasses some of my favorite things.  Let’s see, we have an animal print scarf.  Yup, another one. You can never have too many animal print outfits, though, amiright?  We also have skinny jeans and boots, which is a winter favorite of mine.  It’s practical and fashionable all at the same time!  You gotta love that!  And of course, we have a pop of pink.  We all know how I love a good pop of pink!  Overall, I’m loving this look for winter!

Red Lips and Animal Prints

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Watch out, Monday, we’re coming for you!  Seriously, Monday doesn’t stand a chance with this fierce look.  That’s just the kind of killer confidence we need on a Monday, amiright?  I came across today’s inspiration pic while persuing through Pinterest one evening.  The simplicity of the outfit caught my eye.  It is simple yet so chic and stylish.  I couldn’t wait to recreate the look.  Clearly, I stuck pretty close to the inspiration photo for my restyle.  I bascially just copied the outfit by pairing a black shirt with an animal print scarf, skinny jeans, and brown boots.  I even added the same bold gold hoops as shown in the picture.  Oh! And we can’t forget the red lipstick.  Fabulous!  I gotta say, I’m loving this look and this is one I’ll be repeating all season!

100 Degree Difference

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk double duty.  We all know that I love pieces that can work in the warm weather as well as in the cold.  Today’s outfit features a piece that can do just that!  You may remember this pink number from Carry On Challenge: What I Learned.  If you recall, I was not prepared for the heat and humidity of Mississippi on our trip last fall.  To stay cool, I had to go pick up a few hot weather shirts.  I’ve been curious if these could be worn in the winter too.  I decided to test it out today by pairing the pink shirt with brown leggings, a white sweater, brown boots, and a pink necklace. I gotta say, I’m kinda loving this look!  I especially love how the bottom of the shirt flares out giving it the look of a skirt almost.  What do you guys think?

Winter Wear

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk coats.  Outerwear isn’t something we always put a lot of thought into.  For many of us, we pick out winter wear by asking ourselves one question…is it warm?  If the answer is yes, it finds its way into our hall closets.  Although warmth is a priority, maybe some other factors should come up in our quest for winter wear, such as fit.  Does the coat make you feel fabulous?  What about the color?  So many coats are shades of grey or black or brown, aka dark winter colors.  I don’t know about you, but I want to brighten up winter as much as possible and my coat choices certainly fit the bill.  Here are two of my favorite winter coats.  They are both wool and oh so warm!  The cut is super flattering and best of all, they’re bright colors!  Love it!

The idea for this post came from Patrice over at Looking Fly on a Dime.  She’s hosting a style challenge called Try It, Wear It, Love It (read her post about it here).  Every day she gives us a fashion theme, we try it and hopefully love it.  It’s all about finding new outfit combinations or pieces you’ve forgotten about in your existing wardrobe.  All are welcome, so follow along and participate on Instagram using the hashtag #trywearlove.  Today’s challenge is Outerwear, so it’s the perfect showcase for my bright coats!

Scarf it Up

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

It’s so cold!  It is winter after all, but seriously this is extreme.  Just because we need to bundle up doesn’t mean we can’t still look stylish.  An easy way to do that is to add a scarf.  Yup, it’s that simple.  For my outfit today, I paired some jeggings, a floral tank, a navy cardigan, brown boots, and, of course, a scarf.  An outfit that’s easy, stylish, and warm?  That’s my kinda look!

What’s your trick to stay warm and stylish during the winter?

Nice in Neutrals

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk neutrals.  You have your common neutrals such as white, black, and brown.  Those are our go-to neutrals.  However, there’s a whole world of neutrals out there that rarely get love such as navy and olive.  These off-the-beaten path neutrals also pair nicely with many colors just as the common neutrals do.  I decided to put that to the test today as I was recreating the inspiration pic.  The photo shows an ivory sweater paired with the brown cardigan.  Welp, I discovered I don’t have an ivory shirt that would work with this look.  Diving deeper into my clothing collection, this olive shirt caught my eye.  That could go with this outfit, I thought.  To recreate the look I paired the brown cardigan, olive shirt, black leggings, black boots with ivory cuffs, and a bold gold necklace.  This brown cardigan is a bit tricky as it’s not the typical shade of brown that I normally wear.  That’s why I went with the black boots instead of brown ones.  It works well that way, though.  What do you think of this look?

Some side notes on the pieces in today’s outfit.  Both the caridgan and the tee are from thredUP.  I love the ruffles on the cardigan.  They give the piece such a feminine and flirty vibe.  So pretty!  The olive green top is actually on backwards here.  Follow me for a second.  The front of the shirt has a keyhole opening, which is cute and all, but didn’t work well for this look.  To solve that, I put it on backwards.  This is a trick I use quite a bit.  Have a tank that’s too low in the front?  No worries, just put it on backwards.  Problem solved.
