The Best Tip Ever: Size Does Not Matter

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk size. We have quite a complicated relationship with the labels on our clothes. They represent our internal struggle with what we want to be (or think we are) with reality. That can be a hard pill to swallow, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
First and foremost, we need to learn to love our bodies just the way they are.  There’s no need to compare ourselves to supermodels and celebrities. Anyone can look flawless with a team of 20 people doing their makeup and hair. We’re all beautiful in our own way, so rock it, girl!
Secondly, the size labels on our clothes are just arbitrary numbers and letters. Just because you might be an L and not an M doesn’t make you any less beautiful. Instead, focus on fit. No one looks good in clothes that are too small (not even the supermodels!). There’s no reason to try to squeeze into an M when you really need an L. No one will see the label and the L will look far more flattering.
I had such an experience shopping a couple weeks ago. There was a beautiful sweater on the rack. I picked up an M and silly me didn’t try it on. When I got home, I was so excited to wear it, I tore off the tags before I tried it on. Again, what was I  thinking? It was too small, but I tried to wear it anyway. Let me tell you, that’s not a cute look. Had I focused on fit and ignored the label, I would’ve looked skinnier in the larger size than the smaller one.
In other words, size doesn’t matter. Fit does, though. Let’s take the power away from those numbers and letters on labels and start dressing to flatter our bodies.

Dress It Up

My Style Monday

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
We all know I love an outfit that does double duty. It’s fabulous to have outfits in your closet that can be dressed up or down with ease. I decided to put one of my summer favorites to the test. Our inspiration photo today is the casual version of this outfit (see post here). Let’s see how we can make this dressier, shall we? To dress to the casual version, I added a short sleeved shrug, heeled sandals, some bold accessories, and wore my hair down. Can you believe the difference that made simply by adding a few different pieces? Now, it’s your turn! What outfits in your closet can you easily dress up? Feel free to share them on the Facebook page. I can’t wait to see what you guys come up with!

Why I Don’t Buy Colored Jeans and Why That’s Okay

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk being fashionable. What does it mean to be fashionable? Unfortunately, it seems we have an idea that being fashionable means being trendy. I’m going to try to break that perception today. We don’t need to own all the latest trendy pieces or jump on every trend train to be fashionable. Being fashionable means being confident in your style and owning that style.
Let’s take colored jeans as an example. First off, if you like colored jeans, you get it, girl!  You do you, it’s all good.  Colored jeans are just my example, but this concept can be applied to anything. With that said, let’s get into it.  Colored jeans seem to be making a comeback as of late. As cute as those jeans may be, I’m not going to do this trend for a couple reasons. One, this takes me back to the early 90’s when I did have colored jeans but no fashion sense. I shutter at some of the outfits I put together. Two, I’m way too practical for my own good sometimes. In this case, though, I think it’s okay. I like to be able to pull out some jeans and be able to pair them with just about everything in my closet. That would not be the case with the colored jeans. Just because I’m not going to buy any colored jeans doesn’t mean I can’t make a cute outfit. Take the inspiration photos below. With a few switches, I have some fabulous outfits that work well with my style.

A Fresh Look

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk about taking a second look.  The inspiration photo today is one I pinned years ago.  I loved the bright colors against the dark background.  It really made those pinks and teals and purples pop.  I didn’t have a scarf like the one pictured, so it just sat at the bottom of my Pinterest board.  I’d look at it every once-in-a-while, admire the outfit, and then scroll past it.  The other day I was looking at it again and realized that I do have a scarf similar to the one pictured.  I couldn’t believe I didn’t see that before.  Silly me!  Excitedly, I rushed to my closet to recreate the look I had adored for so long.  I paired a black shirt with a pink tank, a teal tank, jeans, black boots, a purple purse, and a pink, teal, and purple scarf to tie the whole look together.  I love it!  This would easily transition to spring by exchanging the boots for some ballet flats.  I’m so happy I looked at the inspiration pic with fresh eyes.  This is a look I’ll have on repeat for years to come!

Red, White, and Bling

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk unexpected outcomes.  I didn’t mean for this look to be so patriotic.  However, it kinda turned out that way.  That’s okay, though, because it’s not a bad thing and it gave the hubby the idea for the post title (thanks, hubs!).  I love everything about the inspiration photo, especially the red with the layered necklaces.  Since my restyle needed to be winter weather appropriate, I opted for a long-sleeved red shirt, a white tank, dark blue pull on jeggings, tall brown boots, a bracelet, and as many gold necklaces as I could pile on.  I’m loving the look and I can’t wait to try the spring-like version sometime soon!

In the Neutral Zone

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Apparently, it decided to be winter again here in the upper Midwest.  The snow’s flying!  Out of pure rebellion, I opted to wear a dress today.  That’s right, I’m not going to let this snow dampen my spring spirit.  The tall boots, leggings, and sweater add practicality to this otherwise warm-weather ensemble.  The color palette also leans more toward winter.  Although, it could go either way.  The key here is in the accessories.  The inspiration photo pairs the outfit with a necklace that has darker neutral colors, as did I.  This gives the outfit a wintery vibe.  Add a necklace with lighter, brighter neutrals and you have an outfit ready for spring.  That’s a big reason why neutrals are so fun.  It enables you to play around with accessories and make them the star of the outfit.  Who doesn’t love putting their favorite necklace in the spotlight, right?

Pink Frosting

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

When I saw this inspiration photo, I couldn’t wait to recreate it.  I love gray and light pink.  It’s a great transitional color combo.  On the other hand, gray and brown are not colors I would normally pair together. I would’ve opted for black boots over the brown ones.  However, I’m so glad I restyled this outfit as closely as possible because I’m loving this outfit with the brown boots.  Once again, Pinterest to the rescue for some awesome inspiration!

We’re Going Green

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, “we’re going green” in honor of Bill Paxton who passed away, much too young, last week. Don’t pretend like you don’t love that movie…we all secretly love Twister, right?  I know it can’t be just me.  Anyway, it sure has felt like spring here lately.  It’s been warm, super windy and we even had severe thunderstorms move through the area a few nights ago.  With all this spring-like weather going on, I’ve been craving brighter, spring-like colors.  Unfortunately, it’s still not warm enough to switch into full-blown spring gear.  Enter today’s inspiration photo; it’s the perfect winter to spring transition outfit.  The colors scream spring while the sweater and scarf provide some extra warmth reminiscent of winter. I’m loving this look almost as much as I love Twister (which is a lot)!

Flannel on Trend

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Flannel is on trend right now.  It’s everywhere!  Luckily, the cuts and styles of today’s flannel shirts are far more flattering than the flannel shirts of the late ’90s.  Even so, I’m not rushing out to buy one for fear of having flashbacks to my high school days and my lack of any fashion sense whatsoever. I still want to participate in this trend, though.  The perfect solution presented itself in today’s inspiration photo…the flannel scarf.  Yes, of course!  Making the scarf the star of the outfit is a great way to look trendy in flannel without making a special purchase.  That’s a win!

Nice in Navy

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, we’re revisiting an old friend.  I first posted about this shirt here.  I was on the fence about keeping it, but I wanted to give it another try before tossing it in the donation box.  Then, I saw this inspiration photo, and everything became clear.  The navy shirt needed navy pants! Luckily, I had the perfect pair in mind.  I was debating about keeping some pull on jeggings I ordered from JCP.  They were comfortable and fit well, but the color was a little darker and more navy than the denim I usually wear.  Clearly, I was keeping those for a reason, because they were the perfect match to my navy shirt!  Don’t you just love it when things work out like that!?!
