How to Look Your Best in Video Chats

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

These days, everyday is a rollercoaster ride. The ups and downs of our current situation are taxing on our minds, bodies, and souls. *sigh

Luckily, technology has our back and is allowing us to remain connected while we’re physically apart. For many of us this means many a video chat. Need to “walk” over to a co-worker’s desk…call them on Zoom. Want to say hi to the family…Google Hangouts to the rescue.

These video chat sessions can come at any moment and without warning. Looking presentable is a must (at least from the top up, pants are totally optional at this point). Let’s explore 5 easy ways to always look your best when your chatting it up via webcam.

Tip 1: Wear Mascara

It’s important, whether in person or online, to make your eyes the focal point of your face. The first step to achieving this is to apply mascara. Mascara has a great power to really help make your eyes pop. It’s like magic in a tube. So, before any video chat, make sure to layer on some mascara. I’m still loving the Lash Paradise mascara from L’Oreal. See my review here.

Tip 2: Fill in those brows

Remember that we want to make our eyes the focal point of our face? Another great and easy way to do this is by filling in the brows. This is a quick and easy step that can make all the difference. Check out this post for my favorite brow product.

Tip 3: Add some blush

Nothing gives the skin a healthier glow like blush. It gives the skin that naturally flushed looked that instantly adds life and depth to the skin. No need to overdo it here. Just add a quick swipe of your favorite blush and you’re good to go. I’ve been loving the Milani baked blushes (see the post here). The color is spot on and a little goes a long way.

Tip 4: Do your hair

Stay with me here, I’m not talking about going all out with a fancy updo or anything like that. We do need to put a little effort into this area, though. Nothing can make you look more unprofessional, tired, or even age you as much as not running a comb through your locks. As you know, I’ve never been one to do much with my hair. I’m way more into makeup. I think that’s because I can control the makeup better. I feel like my hair just has a life of its own. With video chatting, though, your hair only has to look good from the front! Even I can handle that! Also, I’ve discovered these updo hair pieces on Amazon (check them out here). These babies deserve a post all their own, so stayed tuned for that. They really are a hair game changer!

Tip 5: Wear Lipstick

Photo by Free Creative Stuff on

If you do nothing else, do this one. Putting on lipstick not only makes you look instantly put together but it’s a big confidence booster too. How can you not feel fabulous when wearing a rocking lip color? Trust me, it’s impossible. Now is the time to experiment. Those neutral colors you’re used to wearing may not transfer well on screen. Try something slightly darker or brighter, just don’t go too crazy if it’s for work.

There you have it! 5 quick and easy ways to look fabulous for your next video chat!

7 Tips for Wearing Make-Up with Glasses

Hey, lovelies! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous! I’m so happy you’re here!

Today, let’s talk make-up tips with glasses. Recently, I switched back to wearing glasses full-time. My contacts were getting annoying and they were drying out my eyes. Plus, putting them in and taking them out was getting old. It’s just so much easier to throw on my glasses and continue with my day.

The thing is, though, putting on make-up with glasses can be challenging. Have no fear! I’ve put together 7 tips to take all the guesswork out of wearing make-up with glasses. Let’s get into it!

Tip 1: Use a color corrector

Glasses magnify your eye area. Piling on the concealer can make your under eyes look extra cakey. That’s not a look we’re going for. Instead, use a color corrector to neutralize the color under your eyes. Peach is a great choice for masking those pesky dark circles. Some color corrector followed by a small amount of concealer will have your under eyes looking bright and beautiful in no time! Check out my color corrector review here.

Tip 2: Minimal eye-shadow

Again, remember the glasses magnify the eye area. So, eye-shadow that is not blended just perfectly will stand out like a sore thumb. I’m blind as a bat without my glasses. Putting on eye-shadow and flawlessly blending it out is nearly impossible. No worries, though, there’s an easy solution. Either use a base colored eye-shadow or none at all. How easy is that?!? Plus, the make-up trend this year is light eye-shadow and bright lips. Win, win!

Tip 3: Match eyeliner thickness to frame thickness

Eyeliner is a must do step when wearing glasses. As always, eyeliner makes your eyes pop and become the focal point of your face. We all want that, right? The key when wearing eyeliner with glasses is easy. Simply mach the eyeliner thickness to the thickness of the frame. This will balance the eye-wear and your eyes and create a fabulously perfect look.

Tip 4: Use volumizing mascara

Mascara can be tricky when wearing glasses. Lengthening mascaras can create too much length and brush against the lenses. That gets annoying as it becomes constantly necessary to clean the lenses. Use a volumizing formula for best results. The magnification from the glasses coupled with the volumizing effect on your lashes will make them look fierce! Additionally, no need for bottom lash mascara when wearing glasses. That’s great news as far as I’m concerned! Check out my favorite volumizing mascara here.

Tip 5: Do your brows

Brows are often overlooked. The impact they have when done, though, is undeniable. This is even truer when wearing glasses. Make sure you do your brows! Check out my favorite brow product and the full scoop on the importance of doing your brows here.

Tip 6: Don’t forget your skin

So far, we’ve been talking about make-up around our eyes. We don’t want to forget the rest of our face, though. When wearing glasses, don’t skip the foundation. Again, I’m mega blind without my glasses. I’ve found using powder foundation is the easiest to apply and blend without being able to see much. Check out my favorite powder foundation here.

Tip 7: Layer on the lipstick

Last, but not least, layer on the lipstick. The eye-shadow is kept minimal, so to balance out the look add a bold lip color. The minimal eye look coupled with a bold lip is so on-trend this year. It’s the perfect time to rock out this look! I’m still loving the MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick from Wet n Wild. Find it here.

That’s it! 7 easy tips to look great in glasses. I’d love to hear which eye-wear you prefer? Glasses, contacts, or none of the above (lucky!)?

DIY Setting Spray

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

photogrid_15329059296496031749996494713706.jpgA few years ago, setting spray could only be found from high-end brands. Since then, though, the drugstore has fully embraced the setting spray. I’m not going to lie, I always have one in my makeup stash and I use it almost every day. It’s more for mentality sake. I’m not really sure it’s actually doing anything. I’ve tried the setting sprays from Wet n Wild, e.l.f., and Physicians Formula. I liked all these but went through them so fast. I decided to hit Pinterest to see if I could find a DIY option.

c120e8aa3facee9198cede3d5cb723832039698630905358447.jpgLo and behold, there were some DIY recipes for setting spray. After a reading a few, I settled on this one.

20180729_1802313689808457693594463.jpgFor my version, I used 1 part glycerin, 2 parts witch hazel, 3 parts distilled water (spoiler alert, I just microwaved some water to sterilize it), and a few drops of rosehip oil. I mixed all the ingredients into my empty Physicians Formula setting spray bottle. The sprayer on that bottle is awesome! It dispenses a perfectly fine mist, which is essential for a flawless application.

My DIY version was accidentally put to the test a couple weeks ago.¬† My makeup routine goes something like this: foundation, concealer, powder, bronzer, blush, highlight, eyeshadow, setting spray, brows, and mascara.¬† I tend to get pretty messy when applying eyeshadow, so the need to brush off the fallout is almost always necessary.¬† Welp, this fateful day I forgot to do that and sprayed the setting spray.¬† Oops!¬† Let me tell you what, that eyeshadow fallout Would.Not.Budge.¬† No joke.¬† It wasn’t going anywhere.¬† That’s when I decided, this DIY setting spray IS doing something good for my makeup look.¬† I’ve been hooked ever since.

Do you use setting sprays? What’s your favorite?

Comfort Zone

Wet n Wild Eyeshadow Palette

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today let’s talk makeup, specifically the eyeshadow palette. There are dozens upon dozens of eyeshadow palettes out there. How’s a person to know what’s good and what’s bad?

I’m here to tell you that generally, Wet n Wild eyeshadow is good quality and their Comfort Zone palette is no exception. The colors are gorgeous and can be mixed and matched to create countless looks. The thing I adore about this palette is that they give you a dark and light transition shade in extra large pans since those are probably the colors you’d use most. Genius!¬† Even better, you get 10 shades for $5!!!

They also provide a day and night look on the back, which is so helpful. It’s easy to follow and looks great!

They have several other palettes similar to this in the shades Nude Awakening, Rose in the Air, and Not a Basic Peach (find them here).

If you’re in the market for some new eyeshadow or just want to try out something new, I’d highly recommend this one. It’s so good!

What’s your favorite eyeshadow palette?

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by! See you guys in my next post!

How to Wear Concealer the Right Way

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Color correct, color correct, color correct! When it comes to hiding those dark under eye circles, it seems that’s all you hear about. While that may help some people, it’s not the end all be all cure. Color correcting doesn’t really help me, which was so frustrating until I found out why.

photogrid_15292680745022751713625143180299.jpgA couple of months ago, I was perusing through beauty videos on YouTube when I stumbled across a Sephora video called¬†How to: Cover Under Eye Circles. Instantly, I was intrigued and hit the play button. Here I learned some people have shadows under their eyes and no amount of color correcting is going to fix that. Cool, so it’s not just me. That’s a relief!¬† Now, how do I fix the shadows?¬† The video goes on to explain how to do just that.¬†¬†While I’ll do my best to explain the techniques described in the video here, I would encourage you to go watch said video.¬† There’s just no substitiute for seeing how to do something.¬† Afterall, we are a monkey see, monkey do people, amiright?

photogrid_15292681046204070196965043020950.jpgBascially, you start the concealing process by applying a concealer under your eyes in a triangle shape.¬† For this part, I use the Maybelliene Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Concealer + Treatment concealer.¬† It’s one of my all-time favorite concealers!¬† Be sure to blend, blend, blend!¬† I usually use my finger but you could use a small brush or sponge just as easily.

photogrid_15292682360842502123274538254062.jpgThe second step is where we conceal the shadow.¬† For this I use the Maybelliene Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Light.¬† It’s important to use a color that’s a shade lighter than your skin tone.¬† This will help bounce the light off your under eye in a way that will give the illusion of smoothness.¬† No shadows here!¬† You want to apply the concealer just along the outside of the shadow.¬† For my eye shape, this follows along just above my eye socket bone, if that makes sense.¬† I start at the inner corner and follow that line to the outer corner.¬† Next, I take a small concealer brush and blend in place and slightly downward.¬† Never blend up as you will lose the illusion we’re trying so hard to create.¬† I promise this will make more sense in the video.¬† Even after watching the video, this technique takes some practice.¬† If you’re a natural born artist, this might come easier for you.¬† For me, though, I can barely draw stick people so creating this illusion on my eye was more challenging.¬† After practicing, it becomes easier and easier.

There you have it!   Now you know all the secrets of flawless undereyes!  Go share them with your besties!

That’s all for today.¬† Thanks for stopping by!¬† See you guys in my next post!

Blushing Blush

Milani Baked Blush

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk blushing. Not the embarrassing kind but the makeup kind. Blushes are a dime a dozen these days. Chances are if you pick up a blush at the drugstore it’s not going to be a complete dud. Good blushes are harder to find and even harder to identify in the sea of blushes. Don’t despair, though, I’ve got you covered.

These baked blushes from Milani were on sale at my mom’s local Wal-Mart. Being the sweet lady she is, she picked up a couple for me too (thanks, Mom!). I’m so glad she did! These blushes are amazing and so pretty! They are crazy pigmented and blend out flawlessly. I’m not normally a fan of baked products as I think they are challenging to use, but these are fabulous! If you’re looking for a new blush in your life, I highly recommend this one!

What’s your favorite blush?

The Best BB Cream

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Summer is in full swing! I don’t know about you, but I’m not super fussy with my makeup in the summer. Quick and easy application is key because I want to go outside and play! BB Creams are the answer to all my foundation needs in the summer (and on any rushed morning for that matter!).

Last summer, I reviewed 5 of my favorite BB Creams (see that post here) and asked you all what your favorites were. I got the best recommendation from my lovely friend Sue over at Wine Wows! from Sue (if you need a wine rec or dinner idea, do yourself a favor and go read her blog right now!). She told me about Maybelline Dream BB Fresh.

Guys, this stuff is amazing! The coverage of this product is stellar for a BB Cream. It glides on easily using your fingers making application a breeze. As far as the color range goes they have 3 options: Light/Medium (that’s what I have), Medium, and Medium/Deep.¬† I find that most BB creams just blend so well into the skin that they just end up enhancing the skin’s tone, so an exact color match is not required.¬† Plus, since it has SPF already, you don’t need to apply an additional sunscreen!¬† Score!

This has quickly become my favorite BB Cream and one I’m sure to be rocking all summer long! I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t tried it yet. It’s so good!

What’s the best product recommendation that you’ve ever received?

Things I’m Loving

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, we’re talking favorites!¬† I love sharing my favorite things with you and, even better, I love hearing about your favorites!¬† Make sure to share your top notch products with us below!¬† Okay, let’s get into it!

Bar Soap

Bar soap?¬† Yes, bar soap.¬† About 4-5 years ago I made the switch from body wash to bar soap.¬† The original intention was to use the bar soap to make my own body wash.¬† Turns out, that’s pretty time intensive, so that plan never came to be.¬† Such is life.¬† But I had the bar soap, so I decided to use it up.¬† Lo and behold, a discovery was made!¬† You know how you can get those little bumps on your arms?¬† I constantly had those bumps on the back of my triceps.¬† When I switched to using the bar soap, though, those bumps went away!¬† Sweet!¬† Bar soap all the way!¬† My favorite brand is Dial as they have so many scents and it rinses clean.¬† Some other great options are Zest and Dove.

Weekend Indulgence

Since moving back into town, the hubby and I accidentally started a fun Saturday morning ritual.  It all started when a co-worker brought in some bagels from a local bakery.  Turns out, said bakery is only a mile from our place and is oh so delicious!  It was necessary that I immediately shared this new found treasure with the hubby.  And voila!  A new weekend tradition was born.  Now, no Saturday morning is complete without a trip to our favorite bakery!  This is such a special weekend tradition and gives us something to look forward to during the week.  Do you have a weekend ritual?

Children’s Xyzal Allergy Medicine

The warm weather is certainly refreshing, but that comes with a price for us allergy sufferers.¬† My allergies have been in full swing, complete with a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and the like.¬† Bummer, but a small price to pay for the fabulous spring weather.¬† Allergy medicine is very tricky for me.¬† After years of use, Claritin and Allegra don’t work for me anymore.¬† Benedryl and Zyrtec Knock.Me.Out.¬† No joke.¬† I’m down for the count!¬† Xyzal will make me drowsy as well if I take a full dose.¬† After some¬†experiments, I found that I only need half a dose.¬† Instead of breaking all the pills in half (which never works to split them exactly in half), I opt for the Children’s Xyzal Liquid Allergy Relief.¬† It makes taking half a dose so easy.¬† If you have allergies that aren’t terribly severe or you’re sensitive to medication like me, I would highly recommend trying this out.¬† Have allergies?¬† What are your remedies?

With the abundance of warmer weather, the puppy and I have taken to the hiking trails.¬† I was in need of¬†some new activewear.¬† Turns out, activewear is expensive!¬† Even looking on thredUP was not fruitful.¬† Seriously, I just need something to sweat into, it doesn’t need to be fancy.¬† Slightly begrudgingly, I turned to Wal-Mart.¬† I was pleasantly¬†surprised by my finds.¬† First off was this sports bra from Fruit of the Loom.¬† It’s oh so comfy and keeps everything in place even with the most intense workouts.¬† I also found this fabulous Danskin Now tank top.¬† This tank is so flowy, flattering, and will keep you cool.¬† What’s not to love about that?

e.l.f. Liquid Matte Lipstick

Seriously, I cannot stop wearing this lipstick!¬† I threw this in my shopping cart¬†on a whim and I’m so glad I did!¬† The formula is matte without feeling uncomfortable or looking overly dry.¬† Plus, it has great staying power!¬† I have the color Mauvelous (see what they did there).¬† The pun fits perfectly because this color is absolutely marvelous!¬† It’s the perfect neutral lip color¬†that’s just right for work or for any daytime look.¬† You need this in your life!

What things have you been loving lately?

That’s all for today.¬† Thanks for stopping by!¬† See you in my next post!

Brow Wow

And where I’ve been…

Hey, guys! I’m back and oh how I’ve missed you! This never, ending winter seriously extracted all my creative juices. Then,¬†when spring finally arrived a couple weeks ago, the puppy and I headed for the hiking trails.¬† We spent every possible minute outside.¬† Additionally, I’ve recently taken on a fun new project at work that required what little creativity I had left. Thanks to those of you who reached out. I truly appreciate your support! I’m recharged and ready to get back to it!¬† Now, let’s get into the good stuff!

Essence Make Me Brow

For anyone who has blonde hair, you know the love/hate relationship that goes along with having light brows. In my younger years, I loved it! Having barely there brows meant I didn’t really need to take care of them. No waxing or plucking, which all sounded terribly painful and so not worth it. My grandma always told me I should fill in and darken my brows, though. A strong brow game would accentuate¬†my features and tie my makeup look together.¬† She was so right!¬† Too bad I didn’t listen right away.¬† Better late than never, though, right?

20180216_FFF_Main3Now that I’ve realized the importance of brows, I was off to find the perfect brow product.¬† Oh boy, was I in for a surprise!¬† I was quickly bombarded with thousands of product choices.¬† Seriously, so many choices!¬† Who knew there were that many options for brows?!?!¬† ¬†The store aisles were lined with pencils, gels, waxes, powders, oh my!¬† I’ve tried my¬†fair share of each type.¬† The winner so far is Essence Make Me Brow.¬† ¬† This is an eyebrow gel mascara.¬† It’s listed for $3 at Ulta and comes in 3 shades.¬† I’m in the shade Blondy Brows 01.¬† To use the product, simply run it through your brows like a mascara and that’s it!¬† If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to up your brow game, I highly recommend this product!

What’s your favorite brow product?

That’s all for today.¬† Thanks for stopping by!¬† See you all in my next post!

Milani Eyeshadow Primer

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk YouTube.¬† I love me some YouTube!¬† I can get lost for hours tangled in a sea of make-up, music, and more.¬† My favorite videos, though, are the make-up ones.¬† I especially enjoy Emily Noel’s videos (check out her channel here).¬† Her recommendations are always informed and honest.¬† You can tell when she truly loves a product and when she doesn’t care for it.¬† I appreciate that in a beauty reviewer.¬† She is always talking about (and using) the Milani Eyeshadow Primer (find it here).¬† I never thought eyeshadow primers were necessary.¬† However, after hearing her talk about how fabulous the Milani one was over and over and over again, I finally gave in and tried it.¬† Oh boy, am I glad I did!¬† I can’t believe how good this stuff is!¬† For starters, it’s only about $6 for a tube.¬† I’m guessing a tube will last a good year as I’ve been using mine for about 3 months and barely made a dent.¬† It goes on smooth and leaves a nice, even, blank slate for eyeshadow.¬† Not only that, but it extends the wear of the eyeshadow as well.¬† It’s the product you didn’t know you needed.¬† It really is fabulous.¬† I would highly recommend checking it out!¬†
