What I’ve Been Loving Lately

Hey, lovelies! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, I want to share the things I’ve been loving lately and why. Perhaps you’ll find some new favorites here or at least something new to try out!

Without further ado, let’s get into it!

Color: All Things Purple

Purple is really having a moment this fall! And not the dark, reddish shade of purple that is traditionally associated with fall. We’re talking lilac purple. That’s so strange to me, but I’m not mad about it. I love me some purple, so I’m all in on this trend!

Here are some of my lilac favorites…

Nail Polish

Eyeshadow

Highlighter

Outfit

Books: Girl Wash Your Face

Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis is the dose of motivation we all need. Even the most motivated of us need some inspiration from time to time. This book is it! Each chapter stands on its own. So you can skip the ones that don’t apply to you or read them in the order that makes the best sense for you. This is one of those books you can read over and over and get something different out of it each time. I’ll have this book on repeat for a long time. Pick it up today!

Find it on Amazon here.

Beverage: Flavored Coffee

I’ve always been a French Roast kind of girl. I never stray much from that…until recently. The other day I picked up a few flavored coffee blends at the store, specifically French Vanilla and Chocolate Caramel Brownie. The Chocolate Caramel Brownie was a stretch, but I can’t resist caramel-flavored things. Much to my surprise, they were actually pretty good. I’ll be trying more flavors this fall. I might even try one of those famous PSLs (Pumpkin Spice Latte). When in Rome, right?

You can find this brand at many retailers including Target.

Activities: Being Outside

Fall is in full force here in Iowa. The weather has been BEAUTIFUL! I’m soaking up all the fall feels by spending as much time outside as possible. From walks to hikes to hanging out on the deck, it’s been all outside all time. Oh did I mention the windows are open too? Let that fall air inside!

Here are a few of my fall faves…

App: Puzzle Page

I’ve always enjoyed puzzle books. Now, I’ve found the joy of puzzle books in an app! It’s called Puzzle Page and is available on Android devices (not sure about IOS). It’s a free-to-play app with optional pay-for-play. The free content is plenty to keep busy. There’s a great variety of puzzles to play including Sudoku, Crosswords, Word Finds, and much much more. If you like puzzle games, you’ll love this app!

What have YOU been loving lately? Let us know in the comments below.

That’s all for today. Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

Bernie Memes are the Best Memes

Hey, lovelies! Get excited! You are in for quite the treat today! Let’s get right into it!

It all started with a text from my SIL…

To which I replied…

To which another SIL said, “I’ll be expecting to see that on your blog…”

Welp, I was locked in at that point. I had just accepted to recreate the Bernie meme in front of about 10 people. I’m game, though! Let’s steer into the skid and see what comes of it!

As an extra special treat, Bernie and I decided to show off our look at a number of national landmarks. Enjoy!

So, who wore it best? 🤣🤣🤣

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by. Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

Purple Power

Hey, lovelies! Nice to see you here again!

We’re back at it with an outfit of the day! This one was inspired by the necklace. I just love this gold plated leaf necklace compliments of my bestie. I took to Pinterest to see how I could fit this necklace into a look.

I found the perfect recipe outfit. Not only does it feature the necklace front and center, it looks like an easy yet put together look. Also, it’s purple. 💜 That’s a win win win in my book!

I didn’t change much in my rendition of the outfit. The look was pretty fabulous already.

I know, I know, not many of us are putting on jeans these days. If you do have an occasion to leave the house, this is a great option! For a more casual, work from home look, you could exchange the jeans for some leggings. Now we’re talking!

Which do you prefer, leggings or jeans?

Thanks for stopping by! Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

Another Pop of Pink

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

That’s right, today we have another pop of pink. We’re all needing good vibes right about now, and pink fits the bill for me.

As with yesterday’s look, I followed close to the recipe style. Gray and pink are one of my favorite color combos for winter. Couple that with a chance to wear this fabulous pink statement necklace and you have a winning outfit in my book!

How are you beating the 3rd winter blues (or #stayhome #alonetogether blues for that matter)?

Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

All in with Pink

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

We’re having winter #3 here in the upper Midwest. In fact, as I write this there are little white flakes falling from the sky!!! That’s okay, though, because we can always brighten up the weather with the right colors. The right color for me today is pink. Let’s be honest, though, I’m always in the mood for pink!

My look is essentially identical to that in the recipe style. I love the animal print scarf with the bright pink sweater. It’s such a fun and unexpected pairing. This is an outfit that has been on repeat all winter long!

What color do you wear when the weather needs brightening?

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by!

Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

Black Friday Follow Up

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

It’s been a hot minute since I posted last, because, ya know, life gets busy. Now, though, we are finding ourselves with a lot more time on our hands. Let’s hunker down together and check out (finally!) what a bought on Black Friday.

I know, Black Friday seems like a distant memory (actually, last week feels like a distant memory). For a quick refresher, check out my post How to Prep for Black Friday.

As you recall, I made a list of the items that I wanted to find on Black Friday. Below is the list:

  1. Work tank top
    1. Black
  2. Sweater x2 (I donated about 5 but I don’t need to replace all of them)
    1. Long length
    2. Loose fitting
  3. Light-weight cardigan
    1. Black
    2. Navy
    3. Dark Pink
  4. Leggings
    1. Brown
  5. Tank tops: Red, teal, purple, navy, dark grey, tan, brown and black
    1. Long length

Did I stick to the list? Did I find everything I wanted? Let’s see how I did, shall we?

Purchased from thredUP/ Similar

Black tank for work? Check! This black tank came straight from thredUP and I couldn’t be happier with it. The fabric flows so beautifully and does not cling to the body, yet you can still layer it up with a cardigan or blazer. The longer length also makes it easy to pair with leggings as well. This was a stellar Black Friday find!

Two long, loose-fitting sweaters…check! Oh and 1 more. Originally, I had purchased the purple and pink sweaters from JCP. When I saw the green sweater on thredUP, though, I just couldn’t resist. It’s so cute and sporty. There’s even a cute ruffle in the back! I’m loving all three of these sweaters and have worn them many times since purchasing them back in November. Another stellar Black Friday find!

Light weight cardigans in black, pink, and navy…check, check, and check! The black cardigan from JCP is so soft, it’s the perfect length, and just the right fit for layering. When this comes back in more colors I might just buy them all! Yes, it’s that good! The navy one is also super comfy and the perfect length and fit. Another win! Then there’s the pink cardigan. Oh, this pink cardigan reminded me of an important lesson. This was another thredUP find. Usually I mark the ‘Condition’ filter as “New with Tags” or “Like New”. Apparently, I failed to mark those when searching for this sweater. The sweater is in fine condition, except the big ink stain on the elbow. Ugh! Look for another post about how to get ink stains out of clothes! Hahaha! Lesson learned, be careful when purchasing used clothing!

Brown leggings from thredUP (similar)

Brown leggings…check! These are the softest, stretchiest leggings I have ever owned. They’re basically like butter. No joke! Another stellar Black Friday find!

Long-length tank tops in red, teal, purple, navy, dark grey, tan, brown and black…these were a no go. I didn’t find anything in this category that tickled my fancy. The search continues.

To make up for not finding any tank tops, I made a few purchases that were not on my list.

Black dress from thredUP (similar)

When I saw this black dress on thredUP, I knew it had to get into my cart immediately! I love tank dresses that can easily be worn by themselves in the summer or with leggings and a cardigan in the cooler months. The fit of this is superb, as it hides all my trouble areas. I’ve already worn this a few times and I’m sure this will get lots of wear time in the coming months!

Floral kimono from thredUP (similar)

Kimonos are on point right now. Add some floral to them and you have a real winner. I LOVE this one. I get so many compliments when I wear it. It’s so flowy and beautiful that I kind of feel like a princess when I throw it on. This is effortless style at its finest.

Floral dress from thredUP (similar)

This floral dress was purchase from thredUP with a little coaxing from my mom. She said it would be perfect for our cruise in February. She was right! This was the perfect cruise dress, but it was also be the perfect summer dress as well. The back is so cute with the racerback cutout and ruffles. Cuteness! Is it summer yet???

Purple tank from thredUP (similar)

This purple tank with it’s long length and flow caught my eye. It’s another great layering piece for home or for the office. This is an item that’s sure to get a lot of wear!

Brown leather boots from Macy’s (exact)

After the breakdown of my fake leather boots (see the post here), I was on the hunt for a pair of authentic leather boots. Unfortunately, these came with a lesson. When buying boots online, one should always measure the circumference of the calf. These ended up being too tight around my leg. I was a sad panda, but my mom got a new pair of real leather boots! Next time, I’ll be more careful!

That’s my Black Friday haul, folks! Overall, I was very happy with all my purchases. There’s a lot of quality pieces here that fit nicely into my existing wardrobe. I’ll be wearing these items for years to come!

That’s all for today! Thanks for stopping by!

Have a fabulous day, lovelies!

Bargain Boot Letdown

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Photo by Artem Beliaikin on Pexels.com

Today, let’s talk bargains. By now, we all know that I love a bargain. Finding treasures at a fabulously low price is my jam. Who’s with me?!?! We need to be careful, though. Sometimes, those bargains are not bargains at all. The phrase ‘You get what you pay for’ can ring all too true.

Boots are a must in the upper Midwest in the winter. They are normal daily apparel. I have a casual pair and a fancier pair in both brown and black, neither are real leather. The casual pair gets a lot of wear. They are from JCP and last about 2 seasons (see them here). The fancier pair, though, doesn’t get much feet time. Feeling sad for my fancy boots, I pulled out the brown pair to give them some love. They had only been worn 2 or 3 times. Luckily, I was wearing a long dress, because look what happened after only an hour of wear…

They just disintegrated. It was so disappointing! Case in point, sometimes bargains aren’t best. That was all the encouragement I needed to order a pair of real leather boots. When Black Friday came around, I ordered a pair from Macy’s (see them here).

If you’re like me and are feeling a little leery about spending so much up-front on a single item, try this trick. Calculate the price per wear. Those boots that fell apart after 3 wears were probably around $50, making them $17 per wear. Yikes! The real leather boots I just bought on sale for about $120 would only have to be worn 7 times to make them $17 per wear. I have a feeling they’re going to get a lot more wear than that! I’m hoping to get those leather boots well into the single cents per wear. The bottom line is that it makes sense to spend more on items you wear often. If you wear jeans everyday, spend a little more to get good quality ones that will last you a long time. The investment will be well worth it!

What items do you invest in?

The Long Black Vest

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, we’re talking style inspiration again. Remember last week when we were cleaning out our closets (see the post here)? There were a few pieces that I kept out as I wasn’t sure how to style them. What do you do when you don’t know how to style something? You turn to Pinterest of course!

I was at a loss at how to style this. Pinterest to the rescue!

Top right: Source Unknown; Bottom right: pouted.com

I found a few ideas that caught my eye. I love the striped shirt with the black vest, but I don’t have a striped long-sleeved shirt. This is definitely an outfit I want to try when the weather gets warmer.

It’s hard to tell, but the inspiration pic is actually a blue sweater vest. Other than switching that out for the black sweater vest, I stuck pretty close to the inspo photo. I also added a scarf rather than the necklace for a greater impact. I’m loving this look and have gotten so many compliments on this outfit! The long black vest can stay in my closet for now!

This has been a really fun experiment! We’ve learned that sometimes all we need is a little inspiration. The pieces in our closets can easily be refreshed by scrolling through Pinterest. That’s awesome!

The Yellow Shirt

I was at a loss about how to style this yellow shirt. Pinterest to the rescue!

J’s Everyday Fashion // AJ Wears Clothes // amy-phelps on Polyvore

All these are must-tries, but I decided to start with the purple and yellow outfit. Purple and yellow is a color combo I’ve been noticing more and more of lately. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try for myself.

The pictures didn’t quite turn out as well as I would have liked. It’s hard to tell but this is indeed a purple sweater. I paired the sweater with the yellow shirt and tied them all together with the scarf. Turns out, purple and yellow is an unexpectedly fabulous combination. This is an outfit I’ll be sure to have on repeat all winter long! The yellow shirt can stay!

Would you wear purple and yellow together?

The Pink Shirt

I was at a loss about how to style this shirt. Pinterest to the rescue!

I switched the white top in the inspo pic for the pink shirt and topped off the look with a gray animal print scarf. I also opted for black boots instead of the brown ones. I’m loving this look! The pink shirt can stay!

Do you like the light pink and gray color combo?
