The Best BB Cream

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Summer is in full swing! I don’t know about you, but I’m not super fussy with my makeup in the summer. Quick and easy application is key because I want to go outside and play! BB Creams are the answer to all my foundation needs in the summer (and on any rushed morning for that matter!).

Last summer, I reviewed 5 of my favorite BB Creams (see that post here) and asked you all what your favorites were. I got the best recommendation from my lovely friend Sue over at Wine Wows! from Sue (if you need a wine rec or dinner idea, do yourself a favor and go read her blog right now!). She told me about Maybelline Dream BB Fresh.

Guys, this stuff is amazing! The coverage of this product is stellar for a BB Cream. It glides on easily using your fingers making application a breeze. As far as the color range goes they have 3 options: Light/Medium (that’s what I have), Medium, and Medium/Deep.  I find that most BB creams just blend so well into the skin that they just end up enhancing the skin’s tone, so an exact color match is not required.  Plus, since it has SPF already, you don’t need to apply an additional sunscreen!  Score!

This has quickly become my favorite BB Cream and one I’m sure to be rocking all summer long! I highly recommend checking it out if you haven’t tried it yet. It’s so good!

What’s the best product recommendation that you’ve ever received?

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by! See you guys in my next post!

photogrid_15277665697273889156636926348826.jpgphotogrid_15277420874633549445860718129736.jpgIt’s FabFitFun time again!  Let’s unbox the summer box!  Buckle up, because it’s FABULOUS!!!

Summer & Rose Beach Towel: $55

photogrid_15277667008285190171285666620417.jpg

Guys!  This is the softest towel I’ve ever touched!!!  It’s so cozy and cute!  I’ve been using this non-stop since it showed up on my doorstep.  Jasmine and I love it!

ORLANDO PITA PLAY Atmos-Shield Hair Protectant Treatment Spray: $34

photogrid_15277667694057026271338680976470.jpgThis is another item I’ve been using non-stop since the box arrived.  It’s a weightless spray that protects hair from UV damage and heat styling.  My hair is very oily and this doesn’t weigh it down AT ALL.  It’s a great product.

Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator: $29

photogrid_15277666230403514103139531907339.jpgThis is a fabulous gentle exfoliator!  I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks or so now.  I’m not sure about the brightening effects, but it certainly leaves my skin feeling smooth!

Jaboneria Marianella Hawaiian Black Lava Body Caviar: $48

photogrid_15277669543937796154563952106568.jpgThis is one luxurious body treatment!  It has all natural ingredients that exfoliate and hydrate the skin.  I love using it but it does have a scent to it.  Think of any gift store that has all the candles and that’s what it smells like.  It’s not terrible, by any means, though.  This is a lovely product that feels so great on the skin!

tarte tarteist PRO glow highlight & contour palette: $45

photogrid_15277672026328996711796098840177.jpgThis is GORGEOUS!!!  We all know I’m overly frugal and don’t often (or ever) spring for a high-end makeup product.  Having the chance to try this out was awesome!  Let me tell you, this is a beautiful highlighting palette.  This would work well for any skin tone and any look you may want to achieve.  Could this be my gateway to higher-end makeup?  We’ll see.

tarte tarteist PRO to go palette & sex kitten liquid liner: $43

photogrid_152776713028797619841928160721.jpgYou were supposed to pick between this product and the highlighting palette above OR you could add the second palette for $10.  Only $10?  Yes, please!  This eyeshadow palette is gorgeous!  The formula is so creamy and blends out really well.  I wish there was a lighter shade for a highlight, but I just use one of the colors from the highlight palette.  This is a great palette to travel with as it’s so small and compact.  I took both these palettes on a recent trip and was very happy with the number of looks I could create with such a small, travel-friendly palette!  Also included was a liquid liner.  I’ve never used a liquid liner before, so I need some more practice with this product.  Overall, these palettes are fabulous!

COOLA Face Sport SPF 50 White Tea Moisturizer: $32

photogrid_15277667334361728794698166259043.jpgWho doesn’t need a sunscreen in the summer?  I love they included this product in the box.  I’m lazy and don’t always buy a sunscreen just for my face.  When I don’t use an SPF made for the face, though, I end up breaking out.  Luckily, FabFitFun to the rescue!  I haven’t used this yet, but I’m excited to try it out!

Pier 1 Imports Marble Ring Dish: $14.99

photogrid_15277668053164292124497967186167.jpgThis is the product I didn’t know I needed.  At first, I thought it was silly, but I set it next to the sink anyway.  I’ve been using it non-stop, though.  Need to wash some dishes and don’t want to get your jewelry wet?  Cool, just put it in the tray!  Genius!

FOREO LUNA fofo: $89

photogrid_15277670032414441090077879124440.jpgGet excited about this exclusive launch product!  According to the FabFitFun insert, it’s a “revolutionary device…powered by Bluetook technology and advanced skin sensors to create a totally personalized profile, which is sent straight to the newly launched FOREO LUNA app.”  Now, that’s a high-tech beauty product!  Check out this video from Jen Luvs Reviews to get an idea of how to use it.  So far, I really like it.  Once you download the app, it guides you through how to use it.  Basically, it analyzes your skin condition and moisture level and then you can use the device to cleanse your face.  It leaves your skin feeling so smooth and clean.  It’s fabulous, maybe not $90 fabulous, but if you got this in your box, do yourself a favor and use it right now!

Total Value: $389.99 for $50!!!

This just might be my favorite box yet!  I’m using everything in this box.  If you haven’t tried out FabFitFun yet use my code to get $10 off your first box!  You’ll LOVE it!

That’s all for today.  Thanks for stopping by!  See you guys in my next post!

Things I’m Loving

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, we’re talking favorites!  I love sharing my favorite things with you and, even better, I love hearing about your favorites!  Make sure to share your top notch products with us below!  Okay, let’s get into it!

Bar Soap

20180510_ThingsImLoving_BarSoap

Bar soap?  Yes, bar soap.  About 4-5 years ago I made the switch from body wash to bar soap.  The original intention was to use the bar soap to make my own body wash.  Turns out, that’s pretty time intensive, so that plan never came to be.  Such is life.  But I had the bar soap, so I decided to use it up.  Lo and behold, a discovery was made!  You know how you can get those little bumps on your arms?  I constantly had those bumps on the back of my triceps.  When I switched to using the bar soap, though, those bumps went away!  Sweet!  Bar soap all the way!  My favorite brand is Dial as they have so many scents and it rinses clean.  Some other great options are Zest and Dove.

Weekend Indulgence

20180510_ThingsImLoving_Weekend

Since moving back into town, the hubby and I accidentally started a fun Saturday morning ritual.  It all started when a co-worker brought in some bagels from a local bakery.  Turns out, said bakery is only a mile from our place and is oh so delicious!  It was necessary that I immediately shared this new found treasure with the hubby.  And voila!  A new weekend tradition was born.  Now, no Saturday morning is complete without a trip to our favorite bakery!  This is such a special weekend tradition and gives us something to look forward to during the week.  Do you have a weekend ritual?

Children’s Xyzal Allergy Medicine

20180510_ThingsImLoving_AllergyMedicine

The warm weather is certainly refreshing, but that comes with a price for us allergy sufferers.  My allergies have been in full swing, complete with a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing, and the like.  Bummer, but a small price to pay for the fabulous spring weather.  Allergy medicine is very tricky for me.  After years of use, Claritin and Allegra don’t work for me anymore.  Benedryl and Zyrtec Knock.Me.Out.  No joke.  I’m down for the count!  Xyzal will make me drowsy as well if I take a full dose.  After some experiments, I found that I only need half a dose.  Instead of breaking all the pills in half (which never works to split them exactly in half), I opt for the Children’s Xyzal Liquid Allergy Relief.  It makes taking half a dose so easy.  If you have allergies that aren’t terribly severe or you’re sensitive to medication like me, I would highly recommend trying this out.  Have allergies?  What are your remedies?

Activewear

20180510_ThingsImLoving_Activewear

With the abundance of warmer weather, the puppy and I have taken to the hiking trails.  I was in need of some new activewear.  Turns out, activewear is expensive!  Even looking on thredUP was not fruitful.  Seriously, I just need something to sweat into, it doesn’t need to be fancy.  Slightly begrudgingly, I turned to Wal-Mart.  I was pleasantly surprised by my finds.  First off was this sports bra from Fruit of the Loom.  It’s oh so comfy and keeps everything in place even with the most intense workouts.  I also found this fabulous Danskin Now tank top.  This tank is so flowy, flattering, and will keep you cool.  What’s not to love about that?

e.l.f. Liquid Matte Lipstick

20180510_ThingsImLoving_LiquidLipstick

Seriously, I cannot stop wearing this lipstick!  I threw this in my shopping cart on a whim and I’m so glad I did!  The formula is matte without feeling uncomfortable or looking overly dry.  Plus, it has great staying power!  I have the color Mauvelous (see what they did there).  The pun fits perfectly because this color is absolutely marvelous!  It’s the perfect neutral lip color that’s just right for work or for any daytime look.  You need this in your life!

What things have you been loving lately?

Konjac Sponge

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today’s Fabulous Finds Friday was recommended to me by my friend, Abby (hey, girl!).  I love getting recommendations, so feel free to leave me ideas here or on my Facebook page.  She recommended a product called a Konjac sponge (find it here).  What’s a konjac sponge?  Well, it’s a Korean beauty product made with konjac root fibers from the konjac plant found in eastern Asia.  These roots contain many minerals and vitamins.  These sponges are ideal for all skin types as well as sensitive skin.  They are intended to gently exfoliate the skin to make it feel soft and smooth.  It’s gentle enough to use every day, which is so nice. There are several different varieties of this sponge depending on what skin issues you may have, but I just went with the original.
The sponge is hard when it’s dry.  It becomes soft and pliable as it absorbs water.  So, first, you want to wet the sponge.  You can use this sponge with cleanser or on its own.  I tried it both alone and with cleanser.  I prefer using it alone.  The key is to NOT wet your face first.  Simply lightly rub your face in circular motions and you’ll absolutely love the results.  This isn’t great at removing eye makeup, but it doesn’t do a bad job of removing face makeup.  I just love how my skin feels after using this.  In fact, it works so well that I get excited to wash my face!  That’s a win!
Do you have any skincare recommendations?

That’s all for today.  Thanks for stopping by!  See you guys in my next post!

Bottom Shelf Beauty

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk marketing.  I’m a geneticist, so I know nothing about marketing, but I do know stores want us to spend money (duh!).  They position their products on their shelves accordingly.  Just because a product is inexpensive and has a home on the bottom shelf of the store, doesn’t mean it’s bad.  Here are a few of my favorite bottom shelf beauty products!

St. Ives Face Scrub
I love St. Ives face scrubs (find the brightening one here).  One of my first Fabulous Finds Friday was about this face scrub (see the post here).  It’s gentle enough to use every day and does what it claims.  With a price tag of around $3.50, that’s quite a deal!  St. Ives lotion is also quite nice.  In fact, I would try about anything from the St. Ives brand.  Even though you usually find it on the bottom shelf, it’s a quality brand with good products.

Ponds Dry Skin Cream
This was a new find for me.  I’m an oily skin girl, but in the depths of winter, my skin needs a little extra hydration.  I saw this on the bottom shelf and thought I’d give it a try (find it here).  I’m so glad I did!  It’s a great moisturizer and looks great under makeup.  Even better, it only costs about $5!  Another great deal!  As the weather gets warmer (thank goodness!), my oily skin doesn’t need as much moisture, so I’ll be switching back to a lightweight moisturizer.  However, my dry skinned girls out there would love, love, love this product!
Suave
I love all things Suave.  From their dry shampoo to their shampoo/conditioner to their lotion to their hairspray to their deodorant, it’s all fabulous.  For some reason, these products are often found on the bottom shelf (oh right, because they’re inexpensive).  As far as I’m concerned, though, they should be front and center!
What are your favorite inexpensive beauty products?

Milani Eyeshadow Primer

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk YouTube.  I love me some YouTube!  I can get lost for hours tangled in a sea of make-up, music, and more.  My favorite videos, though, are the make-up ones.  I especially enjoy Emily Noel’s videos (check out her channel here).  Her recommendations are always informed and honest.  You can tell when she truly loves a product and when she doesn’t care for it.  I appreciate that in a beauty reviewer.  She is always talking about (and using) the Milani Eyeshadow Primer (find it here).  I never thought eyeshadow primers were necessary.  However, after hearing her talk about how fabulous the Milani one was over and over and over again, I finally gave in and tried it.  Oh boy, am I glad I did!  I can’t believe how good this stuff is!  For starters, it’s only about $6 for a tube.  I’m guessing a tube will last a good year as I’ve been using mine for about 3 months and barely made a dent.  It goes on smooth and leaves a nice, even, blank slate for eyeshadow.  Not only that, but it extends the wear of the eyeshadow as well.  It’s the product you didn’t know you needed.  It really is fabulous.  I would highly recommend checking it out!

The Secret to Fabulous Hair

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Hair beauty tips product review

Today, let’s talk secrets again.  We’ve been sharing a lot of secrets lately.  Last week it was the Secret to Soft Hands and this week it’s the Secret to Fabulous Hair.  To all the fine haired girls out there, this one’s especially for you!

Today’s secret was discovered a few months ago at my sis-in-law’s wedding.  I was getting my hair done and the stylist asked if my hair holds a curl.  My hair stay curled?  Ha!  No way, man!  Then, she pulled out a magic potion.  No joke, my hair stayed curled for 3 days!!!  I’ve never been able to hold a curl for 3 hours let alone 3 days.  What is this magical potion you ask?  It’s a texturizer!  I can’t believe I’ve gone 30+ years without knowing this secret!  My favorite so far is the Garnier Fructis Texture Tease Spray (find it here).  I’ve also tried and enjoyed the Not Your Mother’s Double Take Texture Spray (find it here).  I’m so happy the stylist that day finally showed me how to do my hair.  I’ll never leave home without it again!

The Secret to Soft Hands

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Let’s talk secrets.  I’ve got a big one to share with you today!  Even in the depths of winter, my hands are as soft as a baby’s you-know-what.  How do I do it?  Simple, with O’Keeffe’s Working Hands Hand Cream (find it here).    My mom gave me a tube of this for Christmas (thanks, Mom!).  I had never heard of it before, but she assured me it was awesome.  She was right!  Aren’t moms the best?  I love that it’s not greasy, soaks in quickly, yet leaves your hands feeling moisturized.  It also doesn’t come off after washing your hands throughout the day.  That’s a huge plus in my book!  I apply it in the morning and before bed and that’s it.  Honestly, my hands have never felt smoother even in the summer!  Do yourself a favor and pick up this lotion today!  You can find it at most major drugstores and our grocery store even carries it!  I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Sephora Bold Lip Kit Review

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk lips.  Bright, bold lips to be exact.  For Christmas, my bro and sis-in-law gave me the Sephora Favorites-Give Me Some Bold Lip kit.  Spoiler alert, it’s fabulous!  The kit contains 6 bold lip colors, 2 of which are full size!  Gift sets are such a great way to sample different products you may not have otherwise purchased.  Next holiday season, I’ll certainly be checking into Sephora more frequently! Unfortunately, the bold lip gift set is no longer available, but we can still review the products, right? Let’s get into it!
First of all, let’s establish criteria for a good lippy.  To be a good lip product the formula needs to be comfortable on the lips, it needs to be long-lasting, it needs to fade well, and be transfer-proof.  Now, that’s a tall order, but let’s see what we come up with, shall we?

Kat Von D: Everlasting Liquid Lipstick: $20
Shade: K-Dub

This was my favorite of the bunch.  There’s just no getting around it.  The formula is fabulous, it’s comfortable, lasts for hours, fades nicely, and is transfer-proof.  That’s an A+ for all the criteria of a good lipstick!  It comes in 40+ shades and although this bright pink may not be everyone’s jam, I would highly recommend picking this up in your favorite shade.  $20 is on the high side of lipstick. However, if you purchase a color that you wear every day, it’ll be worth it.  The formula is that good!

Too Faced: Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long-Wear Lipstick: $21
Shade: Drunk Dial
This is my second favorite of the six and luckily it’s full-size!  I’m not sure I would call this a matte lipstick, though, maybe I just didn’t let it dry down long enough.  Nonetheless, this is a fabulous lipstick.  It is indeed hydrating and so comfortable on the lips.  It’s also long-lasting and it fades nicely and evenly.  The only downfall is that it’s not transfer-proof.  However, that’s not a deal-breaker for me.   It comes in 20 shades, so again, if you can find one in a shade you wear every day I would recommend this product.  Just a heads up, it is part of the Peaches and Cream collection so it does have a scent to it.  If you’re sensitive to smells, you might want to pass on this one.

bareMinerals: Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor: $19
Shade: VIP
This one just barely comes in at #3.  I really like the formula and it gets a big thumbs up on all 4 criteria, especially comfort.  This stuff glides on and you can’t even tell you have product on your lips!  The longevity isn’t quite as good as the Too Faced, so this one is third on my list.  This comes in 10 shades.  There are a few neutrals, but most of the shades are on the bolder side.  They look wearable, though.  Even this bright red isn’t over-the-top by any means. Check them out if you’re interested!  I’d recommend them for sure!

Tarte: Tarteist Quick Dry Matte Lip Paint: $20
Shade: Wannabe
They are not kidding about the lip paint in the name!  It goes on thick and dries almost immediately.  This color is so intense it looked like I was spreading dark chocolate on my lips.  No joke!  Again, this is a comfortable formula, lasts a long time, fades okay, and is transfer-proof.  Although the formula hits most of the criteria for a good lipstick, I just wasn’t wowed by this product for some reason.  It comes in 20+ shades, most on the brown/pink side of things.  This isn’t a bad product by any means, but I’m not sure about the $20 price tag.  If you can find it on sale, then I’d say go for it, otherwise, it’s a pass.

Bite Beauty: Amuse Bouche Lipstick: $26
Shade: Liquorice
First off, this is a beautiful color.  It goes on the lips as a deep, deep red with some hints of gold.  It’s gorgeous and fades absolutely beautifully.  The longevity isn’t bad either.  However, it is not a comfortable formula nor is it transfer-proof.  It comes in 38 shades with some pretty bold choices including a blue and a teal.  $26 is a lot for a lipstick, though.  Again, unless you can find this on sale, it’s a pass.

Nudestix: Magnetic Matte Lip Color: $24
Shade: Vino
This was my least favorite of the bunch.  Unfortunately, this was the other full-size product.  It is long-lasting and is transfer-proof.  That’s where the good things end, though.  It is not comfortable on the lips and fades terribly.  After eating, half of it was gone and the other half I basically had to peel off.  That’s not a cute look, especially when you’re wearing a dark color.  If you were going out for the night and wouldn’t be eating anything, it would probably last until morning. For $24, though, there are better options out there.
There you have it; the complete review of Sephora’s Favorites Bold Lip Kit!  Just to be clear, these all wore off after eating.  Some just faded better than others.  To recap, my top recommendations are the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, the Too Faced Peach Kiss Moisture Matte Long-Wear Lipstick, and the bareMinerals Statement Matte Liquid Lipcolor.  Those are all excellent formulas and well worth the higher price tag.  I’d highly recommend them!
Have you tried any of these products? What’s your favorite lipstick?
Another big thanks to Russ & Erin!  You guys always give such thoughtful (and bloggable) gifts!

The Best Tip Ever: Size Does Not Matter

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!
Today, let’s talk size. We have quite a complicated relationship with the labels on our clothes. They represent our internal struggle with what we want to be (or think we are) with reality. That can be a hard pill to swallow, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
First and foremost, we need to learn to love our bodies just the way they are.  There’s no need to compare ourselves to supermodels and celebrities. Anyone can look flawless with a team of 20 people doing their makeup and hair. We’re all beautiful in our own way, so rock it, girl!
Secondly, the size labels on our clothes are just arbitrary numbers and letters. Just because you might be an L and not an M doesn’t make you any less beautiful. Instead, focus on fit. No one looks good in clothes that are too small (not even the supermodels!). There’s no reason to try to squeeze into an M when you really need an L. No one will see the label and the L will look far more flattering.
I had such an experience shopping a couple weeks ago. There was a beautiful sweater on the rack. I picked up an M and silly me didn’t try it on. When I got home, I was so excited to wear it, I tore off the tags before I tried it on. Again, what was I  thinking? It was too small, but I tried to wear it anyway. Let me tell you, that’s not a cute look. Had I focused on fit and ignored the label, I would’ve looked skinnier in the larger size than the smaller one.
In other words, size doesn’t matter. Fit does, though. Let’s take the power away from those numbers and letters on labels and start dressing to flatter our bodies.
What’s your best ever fashion tip?
Thanks for stopping by! See you all in my next post!
