Quick and Easy 3 Step Skin Care Routine

Hey, guys! Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk skincare. I’ve always wanted to dive into a skincare routine. There’s so many choices out there, though, it was just too overwhelming. I also wasn’t sure which products I needed. Cleansers, toners, serums, moisturizers, masks, exfoliators, night cream, oh my! How do we know what to use, not to mention in what order they should be applied? So many questions! I needed a guide and an easy to follow one at that!

Living in Yellow to the rescue! Have you checked out the LIY blog? If not, do yourself a favor and go check it out right now. You won’t be disappointed. Back to skincare. A few months ago, they posted a Skincare Routine blog post. It was awesome and just what I was looking for! Since then, I have been experimenting and refining it for myself. I want to share what I’ve been doing and what’s been working well for me.

Why even mess with a skincare routine? Well, that’s a valid point. It’s important to remember, though, that skin is our ultimate foundation. The better our skin looks, the better our makeup will look on our skin. We need to carefully care for it and nourish it, so we can put our best face forward.

As a cautionary note, everyone’s skin is different. What works for me may not work for you. My skin is super oily and I struggle with redness. You may have a different skin type and other skin concerns. Please, keep that in mind as you read this post.

The Routine

Step 1: Cleanse

Cleansing is important to remove makeup, dirt, and excess oil. My recommendation is the Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser. It’s so good! It will remove ALL the makeup! To apply, it’s recommended to use your fingers, rub it into the skin, and let it sit for 20-30 seconds and then rinse. Remember to use lukewarm, not hot, water!

Step 2: Tone

Toner is important to remove excess dirt, makeup, and oil left behind after cleansing. It adjusts the skin back to its natural pH, and toner also helps to remove dead skin cells and to plump and add a glow to the skin. Don’t despair, these are not the OG alcohol based toners we’re remembering from back in the day. My recommendation is actually a homemade formula. It’s super easy. Just grab some Witch Hazel and some essential oils. The essential oils you add will depend on your skin concerns. I add rosehip oil, because it has healing properties and helps with redness. I also add Lemon oil as it has brightening properties. You can also just use straight Witch Hazel. Apply it with a cotton pad for best results. For more info on all things toners, check out this article by Allure (here).

Step 3: Repair

The LIY ladies recommend adding a serum or nightcream here. That doesn’t work well for me as it’s too much moisture for my skin. What works for me is using a moisturizer in the morning and a serum at night. Makeup does not tend to sit will over the serum, which is another reason why I use the serum at night.

In terms of a moisturizer, I LOVE the Neutrogena Oil-Free Moisturizer. I’ve been using it for years and years and years. It provides the moisture I need without being overly oily and breaking me out. If you have oily skin, you will love this and need to try it out RIGHT NOW!

For the serum, I use Olivia Care 100% Natural Rose Hip Oil Serum. All things rosehip are great for healing and minimizing redness. If I can do anything to get rid of the redness on my skin, I’ll do it.

The Extras

Lips

We can’t forget our lips! They need moisture too! I love Vaseline Lip Therapy Lip Balm. It has a hint of color, so it can be used as a light lip color.

It’s important to use an SPF on our lips too, though. They are just as susceptible to the sun as our skin. I love the Carmex Moisturizing Lip Balm for a lip SPF. There’s no color to it, but the cherry flavor is delightful. It works so great and can be used with your favorite lip color.

Hydrating Face Mist

I’ve been loving this Hydrating Rose Facial Spray from Grace & Stella lately. It’s a great midday and/or after work pick-me-up. It gives just the right amount of hydration without being overly oily. Love it!

Setting Spray

What’s better than a makeup setting spray that works well? One that also has a major dose of SPF. Enter the Coola Makeup Setting Spray. Not only does this help your makeup stay put throughout the day, it also protects your skin from the harsh rays of the sun.

Eye Makeup Remover

If you need a little extra help removing your eye makeup, Almay to the rescue! I’ve been using their eye makeup remover pads for years and love them! They are so convenient and don’t require any rinsing afterwards. That’s really the best part! They’re awesome!

That’s my routine…cleanse, tone, and moisturize. It’s as easy and simply and quick as that!
