Repurposed Style

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk repurposing.  I love finding new ways to reuse items.  From coffee cans to salsa jars, I regularly scour Pinterest for new ideas to repurpose everyday items.  The other day I noticed I was getting quite a collection of salsa jars.  As anyone would do, I looked at my Let’s Get Crafty Pinterest board to see what projects were patiently waiting to be called up.  There were lots of great ideas, but I settled on making decorative storage jars for my guest bathroom.  Let’s get into it, shall we?
First thing’s first, we have to get those pesky labels off.  Usually, the labels come off pretty easily, it’s the leftover glue that’s a problem.  In the past, I have used vegetable oil and baking soda to remove the glue.  That works well, even though it does take a little elbow grease to get the job done.  In an effort to be more efficient (or maybe lazy, who knows?), I took to finding an alternative way to remove the glue.  I saw several posts that said to use a soak of hot water, baking soda, and a little dish soap.  That sounds easy enough.  I let my jars sit for a couple hours, lightly scrubbed any remaining glue off the jar, rinsed, and done!  I approve of that method!  Next, I spray painted the lids gold.  My guest bathroom is sea-themed, so instead of the fancy knobs, I used shells.  I thought about gluing the shells onto the lid first and then spray painting them, but I decided I wanted the color of the shells to remain authentic.  After the spray paint was dried, I used hot glue to attach the shells to the tops of the lids.  Finally, I filled up each jar with toiletry items and the project was complete.
I love, love, love how these turned out!  I can’t wait for visitors so they can see the repurposed style in action!
