BB Cream Review

Fabulous Finds Friday

Hey, guys!  Welcome back to Talk Fabulous!

Today, let’s talk BB creams.  I don’t know about you, but I much prefer to go light with the makeup in the summertime. After several months of bitter cold, I just can’t wait to get outside.  In other words, I don’t want to spend a lot of time inside fussing with my makeup.  BB creams are the perfect solution!  I have three criteria for the perfect BB cream.  First of all, it has to have SPF.  Secondly, you must be able to apply it without any special tools.  Thirdly, other than powder, it cannot require any other products to work.  Let’s get into it!

The first BB cream I ever tried was the L’Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream (find it here).  This product promises to prime, correct, hydrate, and perfect.  I’d agree with those claims, although it’s nothing groundbreaking by any means.  It’s a little strange as it goes on white, but as you rub it into the skin it blends out to match your skin perfectly.  There are 4 colors to choose from including Fair (my color), Light, Medium, and Deep.  To apply you don’t need any special tools or another product.  However, there is no SPF.  For that reason, it’s not my favorite and I wouldn’t recommend it.  I did use up the tube I bought, but this isn’t something I would repurchase.  Really it’s just a meh product.  In case you’re interested, though, you can find this at most drugstores for around $8.

Next, is NYC BB Creme (find it here). You can find this in most major drugstores for around $4. I bought this to try out last summer. I used it a couple times and then it found its way into my travel bag. It’s nice for travel as it’s quick and easy to apply and leaves a nice glow to the skin. When I got the bottle out to write this review, I literally laughed out loud. Right on the packaging, it says, “Instant Matte.” Ha! I think not. Other than the fact that this is actually illuminating, it’s quite nice. I don’t really mind the glowy finish as it’s not over-the-top. It just leaves the skin looking dewy. As with all these products, this needs to be set with a powder. It doesn’t have an SPF in it, but it passes the other two criteria for being a good BB cream.  Sadly, though, it’s really just another meh product. If you’re looking for something seriously on the cheap, though, it’s not a bad choice.

Up next is the CoverGirl Smoothers BB Cream (find it here). I bought this on a whim and, spoiler alert, I’m so glad I did! With the exception of their Ready, Set, Gorgeous foundation, CoverGirl products don’t usually work for me. There’s just something about their formulation that doesn’t agree with my skin. I’m happy to report, though, that their BB cream works very well. You can find it for around $7 at most major drugstores.  It comes in three colors, Fair to Light (my color), Light to Medium, and Medium to Dark.  It’s basically a tinted moisturizer, but with a little finesse, you can get a light coverage look. I’ve tried applying this several ways and it works best when you apply the product directly on your skin with your fingers.  In other words, do not even think about putting anything on your face first.   Not primer, not concealer, not color corrector, nothing.   Don’t do it!  Trust me on this one.  Lately, I’ve been dabbing a bit of my FitMe foundation on a flat top kabuki brush and pressing that onto the skin where I need a little more coverage.  Set with powder and you can continue with the rest of your look.  This BB cream passes all three criteria and is a great product.  I highly recommend this one!

Finally, let’s take a look at the e.l.f. BB Cream (find it here). This one is $6 and comes in 4 shades, Fair (my color), Buff, Nude, and Beige.  I like this product a lot.  It has great coverage for a BB cream and has SPF 20!  That’s awesome! However, the product is quite sticky.  To be honest, it’s like putting glue on your face.  If you put a primer on first, though, it’s great.  You can use your fingers to apply, which actually works best, but you must must must use a primer.  I use this product when I want more coverage than a regular BB cream yet still want a light and natural look.  As a BB cream, it’s not great as it only meets 2 of the 3 criteria, but as a light coverage foundation, I love it!  I highly recommend this one as well!

Do you use BB creams?  What’s your favorite?

That’s all for today.  See you guys in my next post!

Have a fabulous weekend, lovelies!
